Parrotlet care

Parrotlet  can live for a very long time, if well taken care of lives for up to 20 years, but many have live on even into their 30s. For this reason, it is essential that those who are interested in adopting a Parrotlet be sure that they are willing and able to commit a lot of time to care for them. These are pets that will be around for a very long time if things go well, so their owners should be prepare to care for them for many years.

Parrotlets may look like little green parakeets, but the are not price like parakeets nor do they share the same temperament. At 5 inches in length, the is also a couple of inches smaller than parakeets.  There is several species of parrotlet but only two is commonly know in the pet trade the Pacific parrotlet (Forpus coelestis) and the green-rump parrotlet (Forpus passerinus). The male is green with a blue streak behind the eye and blue on the rump and wing-coverts. Females lack the blue colouring, and may or may not have a faint blue streak behind the eye.
